About Me
Tong began her yoga journey as a student, to accompany her shy mother to classes and explore the ancient tradition together. While her mother eventually found her passion in running, Tong continued practising — and now approaching her ninth year on the mat.
Slow or engaging, a nice flow has always been Tong’s favourite, and this is what she’d like to share with others. You’ll often hear her reminding the class to “keep that breath going,” a cue she relies on in her own practice. Despite her passion for the physical movements, she believes the movement is secondary; the breath and the mind are the heart of yoga. Asanas are simply vehicles to help us listen more closely to our bodies, emotions, and inner landscapes.
If you build more strength, flexibility, and balance through her classes, she’d be really happy for you. If you grow more aware and introspective over time, she’d be ecstatic.
You are always welcome to rest in Childs pose, and she’d like you to feel comfortable taking that Childs pose even if everyone else is in a fiery Warrior II. Tong believes that choosing what’s right for you takes far more strength than pushing into a pose that doesn’t serve you.
Tong would love to make her classes more inclusive, so her goal is to train in pre-/post-natal yoga for her continuous education. If you see her around, please feel free to ask her when she’s going to do that training and nudge her to get it done soon. She will return the favour by suggesting that you take a headstand, but you can always respond by taking that Childs pose instead. She won’t be offended.
